I hope you are aware that you will have no graphical interface with freeDOS as with Windows and also can't install programs such as Word or even games.

If you want to install a full operating system, you need, for example, a medium (USB stick, DVD) with a bootable operating system (ISO file to a USB stick is not enough). As examples I would like to mention https://winfuture.de/...,3891.html, https://linuxmint.com/...wnload.php or https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop.

To get from an ISO to a bootable USB stick, I recommend the tool https://rufus.ie/.

FreeDos does not start a graphical interface like Windows. If you want to control your computer with a mouse as usual, you need to install Windows 10 or a Linux distribution: https://blog.notebooksbilliger.de/anleitung-so-installiert-ihr-windows-10-auf-einem-freedos-linux-system/

The FreeDos Compendium: https://de.wikibooks.org/wiki/FreeDOS-Kompendium:_Befehle

FreeDos is well described here, and you can do it with the keyboard by typing in a command depending on the desired function.

Software with a graphical image output must be able to run under FreeDos…

Windows 10 Pro:

get a product key, e.g. On eBay: https://www.ebay.de/...3159935722

Then you create with the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft a boot medium, I recommend to use a USB stick with 8 GB or larger: https://support.microsoft.com/...tion-media

or you are switching to a Linux distribution. I recommend Linux Mint with the XFCE desktop. Requires few resources, can be configured very well, stable and reliable. Choose Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa, this 64 bit longterm version will be supported until April 2023.

The GUI is not part of the operating system by itself. Windows makes an exception or at least does so.

Typical server operating systems eliminate the need for a graphical user interface-which does not require them anyway-or even on a surface-Novell NetWare, a network server operating system, is controlled exclusively from the network when the installation is complete.

One of the reasons for FreeDOS should also be old DOS games…
