Since I got a new laptop today, I wanted to ask if you know a good antivirus? Please answer (preferably with experience of the program).
If there was no problem paying some money for a good antivirus program, think that there's nothing really "perfect" for free.
Windows itself has one of the best.
Do you mean Windows Defender?
Yes.
Microsoft Defender is optimal for Windows 10 and is sufficient for people who consciously surf / download / install.
Anyone who says "the Internet is still uncharted territory" or on the PC are others whom I do not trust 100% should rate programs such as:
BitDefender
ESET
Kaspersky
Norton
TrendMicro
Etc…
I don't want to make any recommendations here, opinions are very divided.
Until recently, Windows Defender, which was already integrated into the system, was considered the best protection that could be purchased for over two years. Other programs only scored with a more accessible interface if you wanted to make very specific settings.
In the last tests at the beginning of the year, it no longer performed completely error-free, but in my eyes it still represents the most sensible compromise. As a snapshot, the slight buckling may have long since been eliminated. No additional installation is required, the system and processes are not burdened by third-party software and the level of protection should be sufficient for common home computers - unless you knowingly and willfully plan to include questionable pages and downloads on the agenda.
Otherwise, Kaspersky and Bitdefender have usually ranked in the top places for years and, in my experience, are solid suites that also perform well for their price.
Find Kaspersky best. Still enables the best system performance. Checked system for vulnerabilities, whether programs need an update, blocks all possible malicious links, prevents network access from other computers and is a leader in self-calculating security software. I've had Kaspersky for 4 years and I'm always satisfied. I can only recommend. Windows Defender does something, but once a virus is on it, it is quickly overwhelmed. In my opinion, the money in a license would definitely be wisely invested.
The main problem with Defender was that it simply skips a lot of files and doesn't scan them, which is why it came under criticism.
was the last negative thing i heard about him about 1 month ago if you meant that.
I've only been using for years
Avast Premium
combined with
Malwarebytes Premium
and never had any problems with anything, one of the best combos in my opinion, Malwarebytes is one of the best, if not the best, anyway.
the Windows Defender itself is also ok, only it was criticized about 1 month ago, but not as reliable and secure as you always thought, because it does not check many system-relevant files and simply skips them.
Thank you for your response. I think I'll just take the Windows Defender. McAfee is also installed on my laptop (already above). Can / should I then uninstall it?

I would uninstall it myself, since I'm not a friend of McAfee.
But I would advise some acquaintances to use the supplied license if McAfee does not brake the system.
@TopicsLP I have a trial version that runs for 29 days. Then I'll just uninstall it next month - thanks again for your answers!
McAfee is garbage, you don't use that
