How can I swap touchpad between monitor and laptop with a laptop?

I have connected my laptop to the monitor and set that I can use both separately, but the touchpad does not automatically come over to the monitor and I wanted to ask whether settings are required for this or I have to operate the touchpad differently.

Did you also set the correct position of the monitor? Not that the laptop e.g. Thinks that the monitor is down and you then have to move the mouse over the lower edge of the screen.
