Love community,

I've been thinking about it for a couple of days and wanted to hear what the annoying crowd thinks of the situation and how you would act in my place.

I found a SD card a few days ago in the village on a meadow next to the road. It was raining pretty hard that day, so I took it with me. Checked for viruses at home in an old notebook without internet connection - was clean.

The SD card is obviously from a smartphone because folders like Android, WhatsApp etc. Are on top. In addition, there were some folders, bulging with private pictures, videos, voice recordings, etc. I have a bit durchgesklickt and have found information about the owner and address of the owner. The catch: the address was on documents such as dunning notices, invoices, etc. Among the pictures were very personal shots, e.g. From the delivery of his wife / girlfriend etc.

If I lost such a card, I would be grateful if someone would bring it back to me. If he has seen private things of mine, I would not care, the main thing I have them again. On the other hand, it is also unpleasant for me and possibly it too. Maybe he even tried to dispose of her or she is old and he has copied everything long ago.

I see three possibilities:

a) bring it to the lost property office, but do all the paperwork, etc. And who is looking for his SD card in the lost property office (moreover, he lives in a different city than where I found it)?

b) bring it to him and live with it being embarrassed that I have reviewed his pictures.

c) write an annonymous letter, insert the card.

What would you do?

I see no problem why you can't personally press him into the hand of the owner of the card. Then you just saw his family photos.

This was in this case not a snoop, but necessary so you can give this back to the owner and this will be glad that his photos are saved.

So that would be more important to you than your privacy? The attraction of the annonymous version is just that I do not feel like finder's reward, gratitude, etc. I would most like to just throw it in and it's good. But it does not feel right either. Annonym is always a bit cowardly.

Then we just make a compromise. You write him a short letter that the card found on the card have found his address and you send him back the card now. If his address is wrong, the letter goes back to you.

Therefore, please also write on the envelope your address.

So there's no direct personal contact between you two.

Exactly, that would have been the option you had chosen. I would not sound anyways, that would be too embarrassing for me. A mobile number is on it, I can also call. Oh man, I worry too much about it, I guess…: - /

I would send it to him without giving my identity.

Maybe you could write a (name neutral, maybe new) e-mail address to allow the owner to react.

Also, I would check first, if he actually still lives under the specified address. (Are the letters still up to date? Is he possibly in the phone book?)

Nochwas: What is actually, if his cell phone stolen and the card was only disposed of? Then maybe he needs my name to put it in the ad or something.

I would also earnestly wish to get the SD card back, but as you said, it could be deadly to the loser.

That's why I think it would be best if you send the card to him by mail and give him a little note of where and when you found her. Then write something like, "Sorry I had to look at some of your documents to find out who owns the SD card, but I guess there might be some really important files for you. (Do not worry, me I did not look at everything and I do not know you either.) But since I would definitely wish in your place also to get the map back from the Finder, I just looked for your address and they just looked at you sent by post. "

Then write your contact details below so that the owner has at least the opportunity to thank you.

Happy New Year! 🎆🎉
