Which of these laptops would you recommend?

Acer Swift 3 (14 inch):

CPU: Intel i5-1035G1
RAM: 8GB
Graphics card GeForce MX250 (2GB)
Storage: 512GB SSD
Price: 861 euro

or

DELL Vostro 7590 (15.6 inches):

CPU: Intel i5-9300H
RAM: 8GB
Graphics card: GeForce GTX1050 (3GB)
256GB memory
Price: 829 euro

I need it for a few office applications (Word, Powerpoint) and maybe sometimes in college. Current games should also run reasonably. Of course, the Dell has the better graphics card, but what about the processor or Dell vs Acer in general? Almost 2 kilos (Dell) too heavy to carry around?

Gladly also other suggestions

za

Both too expensive for the technology that is inside. 3GB Vram and 8GB Ram at more than 800 euro?!
Better look for other devices.

Bo

Well that's just so for the university the Dell would be clearly better because it is bigger costs less and also has a better graphics card. The processor is very similar and should be able to create simple games without major problems.

With high end games, however, it is scarce for both

Th

Current games should also run reasonably.

It won't work with either model. If current games are to run, then it should already be a GTX 1660 Ti (at least 1050 ti), so that the next games run smoothly.

Such a device weighs over 2kg, however, it is no longer handy.

Therefore, I always recommend: A cheap laptop for office and co, so that you can take it with you and a PC for playing at home. A gaming notebook is always a compromise.

st

You have to decide for yourself whether it is too difficult…

The Dell is definitely more balanced and should fit your needs better. Unfortunately, you have to honestly say that you shouldn't expect too much from a gtx 1050. Current games like the new Battlefield will probably not run satisfactorily

To

I have already found others with better technology and cheaper, but unfortunately they mostly weigh around 3kg

st

I'm not a fan of the Gtx 1660ti and smaller cards are probably enough for FHD, but I'm basically right here. Laptop is for office or vlt series, PC for playing. An office laptop can be found for less than 300 euro, a PC that can do what you are looking for, for about 600-700 euro.

st

Really buy a calculator and a small, handy and light laptop for university / work. Overall, it costs the same and the PC is probably even more powerful than a gaming laptop that costs as much as both combined. The only cost point for the computer are the accessories, but good FHD screens are available from around 100 euro and should also be enough for your requirements

Ra

Both laptops are not very good for games, and the Acer is certainly not. Both laptops are sufficient for Office. A larger screen diagonal may be an advantage.
With the budget, there has to be something better.

To

I'm not the PC gambler now, at the moment I'm only attracted by Tropico 6, for example, which the MX250 probably does not manage and frankly, a total of around 1000 euro is a bit too much for me at the moment.

To

Do you have any suggestions? Would be very grateful

st

With the laptop you have nothing half and nothing whole. An expensive device, but which is not really suitable for playing, especially not for a long time. In addition, the comfort is poor. Would you spend 600 euro more just to be able to play some Tropico? Then buy a used computer for about 400 euro, so you can play everything on Full HD without getting a fit. But gaming becomes abnormally expensive for a laptop when it comes to reasonably acceptable performance.

Jo

Just build your own PC! For 500 euro you get more power than with both laptops together. If it has to be a laptop I can also recommend some.

Jo

You won't find a handy gaming laptop unless you buy a MacBook, and we all don't want that.

To

I'm also always at the university location for a whole week, where I would also like to play a little from time to time, so I would be really happy about a laptop.

I wouldn't even start with MacBooks

To

Thank you, which Intel processor could the AMD be compared to?

Bi

MacBooks are great office devices, there's no Windows laptop.

I really don't want to make you despair and of course I understand that your suggestions make sense, but could you please rate this laptop in terms of price-performance?

Th

It's acceptable. A notebook with this graphics card is also available for less money. For Tropico 6 in low settings, this will probably also be enough.

But all notebooks that can do some gaming are heavy and also quite expensive. Here's the price:

But I would really advise you to take a PC, gaming on a PC is much more pleasant, if only because of the larger monitor, which you can choose independently of the rest of the hardware. And yes, the purchase price is initially higher for Notebook + PC, but it pays off. PC brings much more performance and can be upgraded, the notebook will be too weak for current games in 3 years and must be replaced by a new one.

I have been using my notebook for Office for 8 years now, during this time I only had to upgrade my PC once.

Ra

Somewhat weak graphics card

To

What kind of notebook do you use for office?

Th

As I said, is already eight years old, is a Samsung (they no longer sell notebooks here) RV 520 with i5, 8GB RAM and now SSD, which I have upgraded. Back then it cost 470 euro. There are already very good ones for Office for less than 400 euro.

Jo

You can have a look at the Xiaomi Air Book, which is also very cool. 700 euro

Jo

You don't have to compromise because it's very light and efficient.

It's supposed to be a MacBook alternative

If you could tell me which games should run I can also give you more details…

Ra

6th generation Intel processor and ne 940MX… Uff
