Boot from USB stick?

I have a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows XP, and I want to boot from a USB stick with another operating system. I created a bootable USB stick, but it is not recognized in the laptop's BIOS.

Do you have a picture of the boot sequence in the BIOS?

Depending on how old the laptop is, it can't boot from the stick at all, it wasn't always the case

Sometimes USB sticks are shown under the hdd (hard disk drive) menu. This is also the case with my old pc.

first have to plug in stcik, then bios call this boot menu and open hdd menu. What is there.
