My 6 year old laptop has slowed down a lot, now I have to reset my laptop, but before that I had Windows 8.1 and when I was able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free I did it. What happens to my operating system? Can I get Windows 8.1 again or will I keep Windows 10?

The recovery from the factory will be pushed under Windows 8.1, as this is stored as a recovery image by the manufacturer.
Reinstall Windows 10 manually, you keep Windows 10.
Via "Update & Security" / "Recovery" there's the option to reinstall Windows 10, Windows 10 remains, regardless of which of the 3 options you choose. They are limited to apps and personal data.
