I've bought a WD My Passport portable hard drive before. When I installed the WD Discovery program on my notebook via the Internet, I was able to set a password after opening the program by clicking on the gearwheel (Settings).
With the second hard drive I bought, which is exactly the same, it no longer works. He only offers "Eject" on the gear. I uninstalled and reinstalled the WD Discovery again. But it didn't help.
What can I do to set a password?

You have to install exactly the right driver for your USB hard drive, because internally the new ones may need a different driver.
And do not plug the USB disk into a USB hub ("USB distributor"), at least WD writes in the instructions.
Also plug it into another USB port on the PC (back or front of the PC), have you ever tried?
Has the disk been formatted differently, because there are different file systems (check the recommendations that WD recommends in the manual). Be careful when reformatting and you will lose all data on the disk.
