Have you had bad experiences with AMD?

I would like to know if you have had any bad experiences with AMD / ATI.

I'm currently setting up the 3 notebook from AMD. It always fails with the software. Something is always. Processor is not supported or a file is always missing. Sometimes the graphics processor is worse than the worse Nvidia processor on the sheet. Sometimes the graphics processor can't be overclocked or even a few MHz.

And last year I wanted my buddy to upgrade my computer. Also didn't work because of the AMD processor.

I've been working on computers for 8 years. Intel and Nvidia always worked perfectly for me. Even back then my PC with Nvidia GPU and AMD Phenom processor had never been a problem.

I just wonder why it doesn't work? I don't have a problem or anything.

Fa

I switched from Intel to AMD last summer and it actually works just as well as before. Just stop newer and faster

ca

I have used AMD GPU for years and have never had any major problems. In the last 4 years in which I use Nvidia cards, however, with it.

On the CPU side, I had an AMD Athlon 64 3000+, which also ran great.
I have used them since Intel's iCore CPU.
I had no problems with them either.
The next CPU will be AMD again.

PS: With Nvidia's mobile GPU, I only had stress in the past. In the absence of real alternatives, I'm forced to continue to use Nvidia's mobile GPU. Yet.

He

I tried using an AMD graphics card in November 2019. The thing caused so much waste heat, even though the fans were active, that there was a heat build-up in the computer.

Let's see if AMD can get its thermal problems under control, I might try again.

"Sometimes the graphics processor is worse than the worse Nvidia processor on the sheet"

Example please.

"Sometimes the graphics processor can't be overclocked or even a few MHz."

For notebooks? OC is nonsense anyway. Or desktop, then please ex.

"I'm currently setting up the 3 notebook from AMD. It always fails with the software. Something is always. Processor is not supported or a file is always missing."

Please name the specific problems and the model of the notebook, then you can certainly help.

"And last year I wanted my buddy to upgrade the computer. It didn't work because of the AMD processor."

How did it not work?

En

I tried using an AMD graphics card in November 2019. The thing caused so much waste heat, even though the fans were active, that there was a heat build-up in the computer.

Heat build-up is a typical AMD problem because AMD focuses more on performance rather than energy efficiency. I advise you to clean your PC every few months.

Ri

Which model would be good to know.

Fa

Specifically: software zickt.

Upgrading the computer didn't work either. Nvidia GTX 960 used, but the AMD processor also went on strike there. No graphic games playable. Always mistakes.

Ri

If the CPU is too slow, you would have had to upgrade it, would have been the same if a similarly slow Intel CPU had been installed.

Fa

Yes I understand, but it wasn't slow.

Ri

What errors then occurred?

Fa

Any file was missing. I also googled. But I didn't get a result. I think I just have to put up with it and should stay with Intel / Nvidia. Perhaps this has to be implemented technically differently than at AMD.

Pe

I had a couple.

The Athon64 in an older PC around 2007 was constantly overheating.

I have not yet tried it with AMD's graphics cards - heat is unfortunately typical for AMD, and AMD does not yet have a workstation graphic except for the (unfortunately unusable) Radeon Instinct / Pro.

The FX processors were a failure, a friend had the FX-8350. Hitzig. Always needed a wakü or a strong air cooler.

Hopefully Intel will soon have something more durable with the next platform. 1151v2 is already dying out. I'm currently planning to convert to an AMD Ryzen thread ripper. It impresses me.

He

Since the PC was open anyway, it had gotten a lot of compressed air, don't worry.

He

That was an AMD Radeon RX Vega 64.

As far as I've heard, something was wrong with the 64 Vegas. Nothing helps me. The thing is now on the shelf and another nVidia 1060 is running in the computer.

Ri

The Vega 64 gets pretty warm, especially the blower designs with only one fan. But you could have sent the card back within 14 days of purchase.

What do you mean by heat build-up? Because with at least 2 case fans that should work.

Ri

But that was more due to the installation of the game, you might have had to reinstall it (but then because of a replacement of the graphics card). Because the game does not really have direct contact with the CPU.

He

I would, yes. But I kept it in case I have a computer that can take the card.

And by heat build-up, I mean that the card has gotten quite hot in regular desktop use. But when I started a game, my acoustic processor temperature alarm went off after half an hour. At first I thought something was wrong and called up the temperature values. Lean 80 ° C. When I came close to the upper ventilation grille to switch off, I immediately believed the value.

Fa

Nothing helped anything. No matter I need you as an expert. A Ryzen 5 3500u sits in the notebook. And I want to overclock the graphics processor. However, MSI Afterburner and AMD's own OC tuner are on strike. What can I do?

Ri

Then you probably have bad case ventilation (case fans, etc.) for the card.

Depending on the CPU, 80 ° C is still quite cool, newer Intel CPUs do 95 ° C without problems under normal conditions.

But to keep the card was nonsense, in six months you get something better for the same money.

Ri

This is a notebook, forget about OC, because the cooling does not reach the standard maximum clock rates under load (for the purpose of temperature), OC does not help you.

Fa

Did AMD block overclocking there and would an upgrade to dual channel mode bring anything? Greeting

Ri

CPU overclocking is most likely not already supported by the board (this is actually the case with almost all notebooks (including Intel)). I assume the graphics unit is the integrated Vega of the CPU, which probably can't be overclocked (and is also probably not supported by MSI Afterburner). Furthermore, as I said, OC doesn't bring you anything with notebooks.

Ri

"and would an upgrade to dual channel mode bring anything?"

How do you mean?

Fa

I currently have the single channel mode with 8GB. Would it increase performance through dual channel (2x4GB)? I mainly use the notebook for work. But I would also like to use it for small games. Greeting

Ri

Slightly, if it is possible at all (RAM module exchangeable, dual channel basically supported by the board, 2 SO-DIMM slots). But will not be worth it.

Fa

Yes is interchangeable.
