Free up laptop space?

My memory on my laptop is almost completely full, I only have 22MB free. My laptop is only temporary until I have my real gaming PC (the laptop only has 29.1GB of which 29GB are now used). On the local data carrier, which is full, only my anti virus program is on it, everything else is still available on my 100GB USB drive. Since the virus program has to be on the local data carrier, I can't delete / move it. Otherwise I have my own. Only system data on the Lokeln carrier and temporary files have already been deleted. Because of the limited memory, I can't make any important updates. Can you somehow / only save something? As I said the laptop is only for a few months until I get my real PC with a lot more memory.

Answer redundant.

Fr

Huh what do you mean by that?

Bu

Had the idea with the temp files.
My fault.

Fr

Oh okay, thanks anyway!

Pu

Try defragmenting or optimizing the hard drive. This often frees up some memory if you haven't done this for a while. If you then go to Clean up system files, you can also delete unnecessary files from previous Windows updates, which was a mere 50 GB on my PC.

fo

It's been dealt with. XD

29Gb is not very much, but there are a few tricks to save one or the other GB.

Perform disk cleanup:

Right click on the hard drive → Properties → Clean up → Clean up system files

It will probably take a while to find the files, then select them all and delete them.

Another tip is to deactivate hibernation, because Windows creates a hidden file so that data from the main memory can be stored there in hibernation. This is best done with the following command:

Windows key + R → type in "cmd" without quotation marks → type in the black input window → "powercfg / h off" → press enter

After that there should be a few GB more free.

Perform disk cleanup:

Preferably the extended one.

I wanted to do that with the cmd but it says: "This command requires administrator rights and must be executed at a command prompt with elevated rights."

How can I do / work around this?

fo

In that case go to the start menu and type in "cmd", right-click on it and then on "Run as administrator".

Fr

Exactly the same thing happens to me

Fr

Unfortunately, when cleaning up the data carrier, only 21KB come out. Have now made the state of rest

Fr

How do I opt?

Pu

Right click on your hard drive and go to "Properties". Here you have various tabs at the top of the window, under which the various optimization and cleaning functions can be found. At least that's how it is with Windows 10. I'm not sure, but I don't think it will be any different with Windows 7. Depending on which Windows you have.

Fr

I have Windows 10 Pro.
