RAM upgrade useful, MSI Dominator G72?

I bought a laptop for my student work and studies, that was 2017, an MSI G72 Dominator.

I'm actually quite happy with the device, of course it's no longer a modern gaming laptop, but for a bit of gaming it is actually enough for surfing anyway.

Does it make sense to upgrade this laptop a bit (with the GTX970Mobile and the i7 6820HQ), for example with 16 GB of newer generation RAM (currently 8 GB), or is it annoying because the other hardware is too weak?

I'm grateful for opinions.
