Hi last went off the screen of my laptop it would work to connect it to a screen i just ask out of interest as i do not want to try it at this time and i just got this question before falling asleep
If the notebook has a screen output (usually HDMI or more recent is synonymous with Thunderbolt 3) then that should work fine

If you then use the monitor instead of the broken laptop monitor. Do you just need to instruct the laptop just to use the connected monitor or to display the same image on both monitors.
