Yesterday I downloaded VirtualBox and the Windows 98 file. Of course, everything set up, the maximum number of memory allocated, as well as graphics memory.
But if I then start Win 98 with the box, it says that the assigned memory is too little and there's a risk that it crashes.
I did all this on my laptop (Win 8.1, 8Gb RAM).
How much did you assign?
Did you turn on AMD / Intel virtualization technology?
You can't assign Ram more than you have available…
If you have only 8 GB, you can only assign 4 GB, because the host system also needs RAM…
Assigned 4 Gb of main memory, 128 Mb of video memory and CPU limit to 100%
The hardware virtualization is switched off because otherwise I would not be able to start the box
For Windows XP, 1GB of RAM is more than enough to allocate. The other values can be set.
After you've finished installing Windows XP in the Virtualbox, you still have to do the following. Since Microsoft has turned off the activation server of Windows XP, you can trick it with a trick to pretend. For this one searches with Windows XP the file hosts
Open this file with the editor and add the following entry below:
127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com
Save and restart the Virtualbox. Now the activation is pretended.
Whoops…
I'm sorry I really wanted to write Windows 98 …
How is it going?
You can also take these values. Only one has the disadvantage that the Virtualbox Guest Addidions which contain all the drivers for the guest system (graphics, sound, network etc…) are no longer running under Windows 98.
But there's another way to do that: Take the old Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and use it to build virtual machines running Windows 98: https://winfuture.de/...,1644.html Just give it a try.
