For study purposes, I had to set up a virtual machine on my Windows laptop in order to run C / C ++ on Ubuntu. Since I've never done anything like this before, I followed the installation steps of this chip tutorial: https://praxistipps.chip.de/...ehts_44894
So far everything worked wonderfully - when I then started the VM and the Ubuntu desktop with the start melody appeared (before I clicked "Test Ubuntu"), it disappeared again shortly afterwards and a black screen appeared - afterwards nothing works anymore. When booting, however, the following message already appeared: "Failed to send log".
Of course, I immediately started Google and started looking for the problem and came across the following page: https://blog.wydler.eu/2019/07/27/virtualbox-fehlermeldung-bei-vms-mit-linux/
There I was recommended to change the graphics settings. When I did this - according to the instructions - it only got worse. The melody sounded again, but the screen was black from the start and then nothing happened.
So I would like to ask the group if anyone can help me with this problem. Briefly about my set-up: I use a Lenovo E470 with an Intel i5 processor (8 GB RAM) and Windows 10.
Thank you very much in advance for your help and wish you a nice weekend!
What do you need a desktop environment for?
I would like to install Virtual Studio or Eclipse and then work in the virtual machine
Problem solved: I clicked through the other settings of the VirtualBox and enlarged the dedicated working memory, then it worked!
For the notebook: How much RAM was too little? Usually (TM) 512MB should suffice - something beyond 1GB is probably better.
I took the 1024 MB suggested by VirtualBox, then the black screen appeared. After raising to 2 GB, it suddenly worked. I now have over 4 GB so it runs smoothly.
