I found two emails in my spam folder this morning saying that somebody has downloaded me malware on my laptop and has access to my data (camera, microphone, etc.) and allegedly got me mucked. He threatens me now to send the things to my contacts if I do not send 1200 dollars to a Bitcoin address… I'm really scared that this could be real… What would you advise me?
Do not worry, that's just a scaremail. Have already got something like that. If necessary, simply exchange the affected password and you're done.
Let's start with it: Do you even have a laptop, if so: Has a camera + micro.
Even if that's true:
This type of mail is a generic spam / ransomail that goes out well to millions of recipients. The whole thing is that somebody is "stupid" enough to believe and pay.
Delete and ignore!
Yes, I have a laptop but it is only used for university and work. I also can't remember that / I've messed up before… But I'm still scared
But do not need to be afraid. He has absolutely nothing against you in his hand. So you can safely delete this scaremail.
Fear is unfounded. That's spam. You have somewhere bought a lot of records in which you thaw. Unfortunately this is a common spammail today.
Under no circumstances should you answer or pay for the mail.
This is simply a bold fraud. Do not answer email, just delete it. Suppose someone had really taken you on a laptop camera, which incidentally would not be so easy. So where did this attacker get to know the e-mail address matching the face? Such scams are simply sent indiscriminately and luckily into the vastness of the Internet.
Above all, someone who really owns such pictures and videos would send a sample of it. Of course, this is never the case in these mails.
