Would like to get me a new laptop for my studies during the black friday period.
I will use the laptop to program and develop via IDE's as well as to run virtual machines. It should be able to withstand loads. I won't gamble with it.
Should have SSD and good RAM, screen 15-17 inches
What can you recommend?
Priced so up to 800-900 euro.
When programming in IDEs you can hardly have enough screen space. A 15 "monitor is close to being tortured. I'm programming on a Lenovo X230 with 12.5" and at home on 2 20 inch monitors next to each other. The difference is fatal!
With a 17 '' monitor you have a lot to carry around, but if you can connect a large ("real") monitor at home (or maybe 2?) And an external keyboard and mouse, the quality of work increases significantly. Remember that your eyes, neck and shoulders should be able to withstand computer work for a few more decades. And laptops are always just a crutch.
You haven't mentioned yet whether you want to work on Linux, MacOS or Windows. And which systems do you want to run as a virtual machine? For each VM there's then 1 GB (for WindowsXP) to 8 GB (for a full-blown Windows domain controller with app virtualization) of RAM requirements. So everything between 8 GB and 64 GB is possible. How many CPU cores you want to pass on to the VMs is also an important point.
So at the moment the specifications of are not clearly defined. Personally, I prefer to buy small, cute, used laptops and run a few (equally used) desktops or servers at home. This increases electricity costs and lowers heating costs.
