Registration with a fingerprint on a notebook works very badly. Why?

On my HP Envy, I have set up the registration by fingerprint. But it only rarely works. Usually comes at some point after several attempts, the message that the fingerprint is not recognized, and I have to enter a 6-digit code. This takes a lot of time each time and is just tedious.
