Brightness on my hp laptop does not change. What to do?

My HP 225 G7 Notebook PC has two buttons to regulate the brightness. If you press it, a small bar appears on the screen, which shows the brightness level.

Sometimes this works fine, but often nothing changes even though the bar appears and shows a change.

Even when I changed the brightness in the control panel, the screen stayed as it was.

What can I do?
