Since a few weeks my laptop (HP ENVY Notebook 13-d101ng) does not start anymore. When starting the error message came that no "Hard Drive" was found. This seems to be a more common problem with HP laptops, but none of the solutions has helped.
So I bought an external SSD housing, but the SSD (SanDisk X300 M.2 256gb) was not recognized on other PCs -> defective. The case I have sent back and bought the following new SSD: Western Digital WDS500G2B0B (500gb).
In the meantime, several weeks have passed and it is still to be mentioned that the battery of the laptop had already weakened quite a bit. He also started with a Linux Mint USB stick and I also got into the BIOS.
Meanwhile, I have installed the new SSD. Initially, it started for 1-2 seconds, the fans turned and then went out again. Two times the loudspeaker made strange noises. When pressing the power button, the charging and power LEDs light up once.
In the meantime nothing works without a connected power supply and the time he stays on has become shorter. Even with old defective hard drive is nothing more and no error message is displayed more.
Does anyone have any idea what the solution to the problem might be? Removing the motherboard Battery I've already heard, but no idea where I find the laptop.
Have you ever installed Windows on the new SSD?
No, I thought Windows installs itself when the SSD is reinstalled in the computer. Otherwise I would need an external housing again, right?
You only need a bootable USB stick.
You can prepare this with this tool here:
https://go.microsoft.com/...kId=691209
(Direct download link)
You should empty the stick beforehand, otherwise the data will be deleted.
Of course, you should know which version of Windows was on it, you do not have to activate most of the time, if on this PC ever Windows was on it.
Have already such a stick, but unfortunately nothing happens otherwise than usual. LEDs flash and fan jumps briefly.
Had tried the stick with old hard drive, because he was still synonymous and I could have re-set Windows, but hard drive was not found.
Have you ever selected the stick via the boot menu?
Or in the BIOS, the boot order adapted?
Yes, I did that when I did not have the new hard drive, but now I can't even get into the BIOS
To reset your HP notebook, disconnect the power adapter and press the power button for 15 seconds. Afterwards your notebook should be reset and you can start it normally again.

Ever thought that your notebook is broken and not the SSD?
Your notebook is now a bit older.
It does not work
No, not really. A few weeks ago, when the problem already existed, it could still start with a Linux Mint Stick and no hard disk was detected.
Well, if you can't even call the BIOS it does not look so funny. Does your notebook make another POST? (Power on self test)
I do not think so. He is now only the fraction of a second
Then you should consider a notebook broken.
You can stick HDD / SSD / DVD and then try to start.
Otherwise, remove a RAM latch and, if necessary, perform a BIOS reset.
The notebook has only one ssd, have already tried without them to start.
The ram latch is, I believe, mounted somewhere under the mainboard. No idea how to get there.
bios reset by key combination does not work.
have now found the cmos battery under the battery. But it is soldered / glued. I'm not sure if I should remove them.
Na still broken is hardly so… Can but sometimes bring in a specialist.
I just found out how to completely unplug the battery. I then turned it back on without a hard drive and he went to the screen. Have now reinstalled hard drive, but now he goes back to only a very short time.
Now I have removed the hard drive and he goes with the screen. How do I get it now with hard drive in it? The error message is the same as a few weeks ago "boot device not found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk"
Now I come back to the bios
Well then try another SSD / HDD… If that does not work, it probably got the controller.
Have already bought a new ssd and tried it with her. It will be difficult to change controllers
He's in the CPU, it will not work.
Maybe you have a second SATA port, then test this time… It could also be very vile power supply of the SATA port is broken.
Is the Wi-Fi card in a sata port? Which could I expand easily?
No, she does not do it.
So in no usable.
Pity. I think ssd while the pc is running is not such a good idea.
No, but it's plug and play.
Just try it.
But it would be really strange if the old ssd and the controller are broken. Because the old one was not recognized on any other pc
If I plug her while he is running he goes out immediately.
Well, if your SSD is new, I guess just the controller or the power supply… Maybe your old SSD has indeed caused the defect.
But that's all speculation, you can only say that if you checked the notebook with the necessary means… But if that is worthwhile in a somewhat older system is questionable.
Yes that's right, now it has worked well for the first time bios upzudaten. But did not bring anything. Nevertheless, thank you for the numerous answers
