I got a laptop a few years ago (ran with Windows 8.1) which I later upgraded to Windows 10.
Now I would like to reset the laptop to the factory settings, because I now have too many unnecessary pictures and programs.
I would only care if I also lose my Windows 10 version (and it is switched back to Windows 8.1), should I reset the laptop now.
If necessary, a re-recording must take place and therefore I advise to consistent data backup on an external storage medium.
If nothing happens, since only the data and settings are lost and not the license
Best not reset, but reinstall clean. The Windows 10 license is not lost because it is also permanently stored in your Microsoft account.
Here's how to do it: First download the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft website. So you can create a Windows 10 USB bootstick. This requires an empty formatted stick.
After creating the stick, just boot it into the laptop and follow the installer's instructions. It offers the possibility to completely delete the hard disk / SSD. After completing the installation and the first start of Windows 10, simply log in again with your Microsoft account. Windows 10 is then automatically activated again. You do not have to enter the key.
Finally, you go to the manufacturer side of the laptop. There download and install the drivers.
It is always better to reinstall clean than reset.
