Pc suddenly beeps loudly?

I just looked at an anime (Bleach), where advertising and new windows always open up before each series. Now just a new page has opened and the oh has all of a sudden started to beep. I saw some messages or something, but I immediately clicked away the page and could not see what. Do you think my laptop could possibly be infected now or something like that?
