My laptop is not that old yet, about 2 years, everything has worked quite well so far. Now the internet connection breaks down suddenly, even if I had all the bars before. If I then click on the Internet symbol, I don't get any Wi-Fi networks at all, only the message that I can use airplane mode. So I can't make a new connection at all. A few seconds or minutes later the whole PC crashes or restarts. I see this blue screen with that. Smiley, but only for a split second, so I never managed to photograph the exact error code. I saw videos over the blue screen on YT and then installed two Windows updates, but that didn't change anything. I didn't install any new hardware other than a new mouse yesterday. The problem arose some time ago, then no more, yesterday then twice within a few hours, today already five or six times at short intervals. I have nowhere found any information about why a broken internet connection 'announces' the blue screen, so to speak. Does anyone know what I can do there? (please explain very simply, I have no idea about IT)
Important for the help is:
Model of the laptop?
and the exact designation of the "Wireless LAN Adapter" in the Windows device manager?
The model is ASUS VivoBook S15, the WLAN is called Intel (R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265, does that mean or something else?
A Windows crash with a blue screen is very often due to faulty device drivers or even defective hardware.
The driver for the "Wireless LAN Adapter" is very suspicious for you, because you write that your WLAN is reacting strangely.
If the manufacturer is aware of such problems, the manufacturer (ASUS) offers driver and BIOS updates from its support site.
Here ASUS describes (unfortunately only in English) how to analyze or even eliminate such problems with blue screen.
https://www.asus.com/...Q/1042499/
I would first look for the UEFI / BIOS update and also for the latest drivers for the "Wireless LAN Adapter".
Here at ASUS: https://www.asus.com/...ad-Center/
There seems to be a known blue screen problem (abbreviation for blue screen: BSOD) with the wireless LAN AC8265 (manufacturer is Intel).
Here at Intel we report that a driver update for the AC8265 has eliminated the BSOD problem on another laptop.
At the bottom of this page (penultimate answer is a guide with 3 links on how to do this)
https://community.intel.com/t5/Wireless/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-8265-causing-BSOD-in-Win10/td-p/603818
My proposition:
Actually, you should first try the current driver from the laptop's OEM manufacturer (ASUS). I would try that first.
If ASUS does not offer a current driver for the AC8265, or if the laptop still crashes while using the WLAN, I would install the driver from Intel (you must first uninstall the ASUS driver + the wireless software from ASUS!). It's a bit tricky, but follow the instructions exactly.
Here you can find the driver from Intel for the AC 8265

Thanks for the help first, that's a lot! I followed the links and then implemented some problem-solving tips from ASUS, but so far without success. Allegedly, drivers and everything are okay. I still downloaded the driver from the Asus site, but I haven't got it installed yet (it wants something with Windows PowerShell and I have to read more about what to do now)
Since the PC crashed a couple of times during the whole thing, I was finally able to read the error message correctly - BUGCODE NDIS DRIVER (I also searched for it online but I got no further).
But I think I'm getting a little closer to the solution!
You write driver is OK! Windows is stupid, if Windows doesn't know a better driver, Windows always reports that everything is OK! Don't believe this clumsy statement from Windows! Check it out yourself. Never download drivers from any strange websites, only from ASUS or Intel, otherwise you will quickly get a computer virus.
First look in the device manager (properties of the Wireless AC 8265) which version of the driver is currently installed and compare the version with the version available from the ASUS website (you have to register with ASUS to receive drivers):
https://www.asus.com/...ad-Center/
Here is how ASUS explains how to update drivers:
Thanks again for the links! I still had to work yesterday and now again, so I'll just take a look at it. I've registered myself and then I'll see that I can get on there!
