8GB is not much by today's standards, the running programs and the system may well take up 4 GB of it.
Your game will hardly work, if at all it will only jerky.
The operating system takes care of the memory management.
If more RAM is required than is (currently) free, the data of "dormant" programs are temporarily moved to the swap file.
Otherwise the RAM reported as "free" is always used as a cache with temporary data.
So, no fear! That will work!

Faster, well, they're definitely cheaper. Also believe that your laptop won't get any faster, but it will run smoother.
When copying files I noticed that it quickly writes 10GB in the working memory with 500MB per sec.
By the way, my Acer has soldered 4 GB and 4 GB to swap. Have 4 + 16 GB.
