Connect floppy drive to computer?

I bought a floppy drive for my laptop

unfortunately he doesn't read my floppy disk

Where is the mistake?

Do you have to somehow connect the computer with the floppy disk drive through a program?

you should see if you bought 1.44MB or 720kb LW and if the floppy type fits, 1.44 should be able to read everything.

older media could be demagnetized and illegible by sector

new media are mostly formatted, but could be formatted again for security and only then be written to

Assume that today only 1.44 MB drives are manufactured,

you should be able to read everything if medium is ok
