A friend started as a DJ at the celebrations in the circle of friends and asked me something, I'll pass it on to you, because I have no idea myself:
He is currently playing the music for the celebration on a laptop, while searching / selecting additional music with a second laptop and his headphones.
But that must be somehow more feasible with a laptop. Are there any special programs for DJs or the like?
Do you mean "be more doable" that he can do everything with a laptop?
Okay I read "with a laptop" sry
Well, first of all is a DJ and has such questions. Oh well…
What is planned, that is, to let music run at the same time and to listen to other music, is called "CUEing" or "Preview". This is a standard function in all DJ software and on all reasonably usable mixing consoles and MIDI controllers.
The prerequisite is that the MIDI controller that controls the DJ software has an interface (sound card) with at least 4 audio channels. Then the master signal is output to the system via 2 channels (right and left) and the audition signal to the headphones via the two other channels.
"DJ" in the sense of: he puts down his speakers and plays music on his laptop for the evening, nothing professional.
So that works with a normal laptop only with USB and at most AUX?
What is called DJ today.
No. You need at least one sound card that has the four channels mentioned. A laptop basically only has a sound card with two channels. Alternatively, you could only use an external interface (sound card). This is mumpitz from cost / usability alone. I would rather recommend a cheap (used) DJ controller, such as a Reloop Beatmix 2 in combination with a DJ software. So at least the whole thing makes sense.
"A DJ or disc jockey or disc jockey is a person who plays https://de.wikipedia.org/...r%C3%A4ger

He is a DJ with it.
Okey, thanks for the answer.
And thank you for the instruction. By the way, my grandma was also a DJ. At Easter she always played her selection of folk music in front of the family.
