Can you connect two monitors with one DVI cable?

I bought a second monitor and was wondering if I could connect my laptop with a cable using an HDMI cable and the other monitor with a DVI cable that was already connected.

If the notebook has an HDMI and a DVI connection, you can connect both monitors to it. If I understand correctly what your starting point is.

No that is not possible they would share such an interface… Laptops can usually only be connected to one screen, if at all… But with your suggestion if I understand it correctly, not at all
