I got a monitor from Samsung as a gift. I would like to connect it to my laptop. My laptop only has one HDMI socket.
The monitor has a DVI IN (HDCP) socket and an RGB IN socket. Is it enough if I get an HDMI to DVI adapter cable? Does it matter which HDMI-to-DVI cable (or does every DVI cable fit into DVI-HDCP anyway?)
An adapter… DVI to HDMI… Available on eBay
There are dvi to HDMI adapters.
With that it works without problems, only audio can't be transmitted with the cheap ones.
Since DVI-A only exists in theory, it doesn't matter which adapter you buy. Just take the cheapest, because there are only 2 states with digital signals. It works or it doesn't.
DVI does not have an Audi channel.
But there are those who then have a jack plug on the dvi, then the hdmi audio is output in analog.

I'm well aware of that. But audio is never transmitted over DVI as your answer suggests. In addition, what you recommend there, botch!
