Unfortunately, after a few years my Asos laptop gave up the ghost and now I'm looking for a new one. Basically I only need the laptop to play Sims 4 and to watch Netflix. So one with a fairly large display, weight doesn't matter. I already have a small laptop just for work. Price maximum 600 euro. Do I get something decent for the price or is that not possible?
I'm guessing by a fairly large display you mean a 17.3 inch device. Most devices have a 15.6-inch display, but there are also a few larger ones. Incidentally, it is currently difficult to find laptops because quite a few devices are sold out or the delivery dates are unknown.
The best graphics unit for 17.3-inch devices will be an RX Vega 3, which is the integrated graphics unit of various Ryzen CPUs. I haven't found anything better up to 600 euro.
If you were to spend 30 to 50 euro on it, I would have two devices with a better processor and therefore a better graphics unit at the same time, namely the RX Vega 8. You won't be able to play Sims 4 with it at the highest settings, but I would be worth the extra charge.
On the one hand, that would be the following device from Lenovo for 630 euro: https://www.one.de/lenovo-ideapad-3-17ada-81w2003yge-71115
However, it should also be mentioned here that no operating system is pre-installed. An operating system would cost about 15 euro and you end up with just under 650 euro.
For this reason, you could basically opt for this device from Lenovo for 650 euro: https://www.hitseller.de/buero-computer/notebooks-pcs/notebook/lenovo-notebook-ideapad-3-81w20060ge
This is also a 17.3-inch device with a full HD display. Furthermore, an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U and 8 GB RAM are also installed here. But instead of a 256 GB SSD, you have a 512 GB SSD and Windows 10 is already preinstalled, which is why the small surcharge compared to the other device is definitely worth it, which would result from buying an operating system anyway.
As for the performance of Sims 4, for example, you can find benchmarks a little further down here: https://www.notebookcheck.net/...180.0.html
The game seems to run at around 30 FPS on high settings. In my opinion, a game runs really smoothly with around 50 - 60 FPS. So I think the game should work without problems on medium settings if you can count on 30 FPS on high settings. As far as I know, Sims 4 also offers a laptop mode, which is supposed to provide more performance based on various automatic settings.
Thanks.
With pleasure
