Can I connect my Ps3 controller to the laptop?

I want to play a few games on the laptop with the controller but need some kind of connection from the laptop to the controller and before I mess up I wanted to ask how I have to do that.

It works wired or wireless there are tutorials on youtube you just need a program for games that only support xbox controllers you just have to change the button mapping
