Can the school monitor the laptop?

I borrowed a school laptop during the Corona period. I installed Discord and a few other apps to be able to talk to friends. My question would be now. Can the school understand which apps / games I had on it? In addition, Discord can no longer be started as of today.

I don't think so much that they'll bother, but it's still not great to install non-school content on it. I suppose they are given out by the school precisely to learn with it and not to play with it or the like…

Even if they say nothing about discord or just a game you played in between

But don't think of those who monitor or control it

Maybe already. It depends on how they are set up or whether someone is interested in them. In addition, the question is how you are allowed to use the devices at all. So whether you are allowed to use it privately or install anything at all…

Don't worry, I usually only use the laptop for school anyway. I only have Discord there to chat

Well you've downloaded the stuff and the history, unless it was privacy, can be read by anyone. Anyone can read things that you simply throw in the trash.

It "can" in any case - the question is whether it may and whether there's any interest at all.

Ultimately, it depends on what was agreed upon when you borrowed it - you would probably have to agree to a corresponding monitoring so that it would only be approximately data protection compliant.

It would be much more likely that you would prevent games from being installed by assigning rights accordingly. If they haven't, they probably won't be monitoring anything.

You can do this on your own equipment and not on loan equipment.
