Is a notebook with AMD Ryzen 5 4500u future-proof?

I bought the Lenovo Ideapad 5 with AMD Ryzen 5 4500u, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD for 623 euro for studying.

However, I'm not so sure about my decision now. I would definitely like to use the notebook for more than 2 years and am now wondering whether this configuration is future-proof.

The Lenovo Student Store has the laptop with the same components but with a Ryzen 7 4700u for 719 euro, almost 100 euro more.

My question now:

Would it be worth buying the IdeaPad with Ryzen 4700u for just under 100 euro more?

Is 4700u much better and more future proof than 4500u?

ju

So I bought an HP Envy x360 with a 4700U and I'm really surprised how fast the 4700U is.

The 4500U works too, of course, but in my opinion, I would invest the 100 euro more in the 4700U or if you get the 4800U, it also has SMT and a little more graphics performance, if you need it at all.

There's no future security in the IT area, but it always depends on the area of application!

But that doesn't answer my question. I haven't asked for any other notebook recommendations. I'll stick with the IdeaPad 5. I just asked if my configuration was future-proof.

10 years will be enough for study and office

As far as I've seen, the 4800u version is not available in the Student Store.

But would the extra 100 euro really be worth it for you? The remaining components are identical…

ju

The 4700U has the better multicore performance.

Graphics performance is also better. So I decided against the 4500U. But I can't make a comparison either, because I don't have a 4500U on hand.

I play Anno 1800 on the notebook at 60fps at 1080p and low details. What a great notebook like this!

Did you choose the 4700u primarily for better gaming?

ju

No, because I wanted the better performance.

There was a choice between a notebook with a 4500U and a 4700U. The 4700U cost a good 300 euro more. Had slightly better hardware. The one with 4500U had 8GB DDR4 3200 RAM and a 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD… The one with the 4700U had 16GB DDR4 3600 RAM and a 1000GB M.2 NVMe SSD.

For office etc. Is the laptop enough. The Ryzen 7 will no longer make the laptop usable. The difference between the two processors is also rather small.

Thank you for your answer. So wouldn't it be worth it for you to buy the version with Ryzen 7 4700u for almost 100 euro more?

I agree
