Slow laptop jerky while cutting? Lenovo G50-45?

I have the problem that I want to cut a video on my laptop (Lenovo G50-45 with Shotcut), but it is quite jerky.

In general, the laptop is pretty slow & I also know that it is not suitable for cutting.

Unfortunately, I have not that money to buy me now a new or expensive editing program to buy.

Is there any way to cut something without having to spend a lot of money on it?
