Windows laptop battery in continuous charging - settings for it?

I have a Lenovo laptop that is mostly at home in the vicinity of the socket. So it makes sense to keep the device permanently connected to the mains so that you don't have to plug in the charger again and again.

It is now clear to me that it is much more damaging if the battery is in continuous operation.

Since I'm sure this is not the first time that this problem has been described in the world, I wonder if there are any hidden settings to determine when a battery should be charged at all?

Quasi, for example: keep blinders tight and only let them charge when the battery is below 20% as an example. Up to a selected percentage?

Possibly. Are there any third-party software there?

In a switched off state it should of course load as usual, so ne software would be more recommendable. Presumably, however, it must be able to work with the appropriate hardware here, and conventional laptops will hardly have any built-in locks here, as I can imagine.

But asking costs nothing.

Does anyone know what?

Lenovo has an app called Lenovo Vantage. In this you can set the energy settings so that the battery is only charged up to approx. 60% and is kept at this battery level. This is definitely healthier than floating around permanently at 100%.

Lenovo Thinkpads have / had a software called Lenovo Power Manager / Lenovo ThinkVantage / Lenovo Vantage.

With this software you could set the loading, unloading, charging, … As far as I know, I always set it so that the battery was always charged to 100%, then the charging stops, and was only recharged when the battery fell below 80%.

A free software from third-party providers will be of no use to you, the charging electronics sit in the laptop itself and act independently, without software. The Lenovo Power Manager software mentioned only works with Lenovo laptops that support this.

My Lenovo Thinkpad W540 no longer has the software as an example.

If you only use the device on the mains and the battery can be easily removed, I would take it out when it is about 70-80% full and use the device without a battery. I have an X201 here, so far I've always had it in there, but I often use it without a cable, but it also sometimes hangs on the network for a long time. I have the feeling that the battery has drained considerably. Displayed runtime with the 63Wh battery 1h30 at 95%
