I need a specific program on my laptop for school.

However, this program is only available for Windows operating systems.

I own a MacBook and therefore have MacOS.

Is there a way to install the program on my laptop anyway? Has an .exe extension.

Opening it through Wine and PlayOnMac didn't work.

No. Not in this form. There are two possibilities:

BootCamp - install Windows in dual boot and boot Windows when you need the Windows application
Virtual machine - for example, install VirtualBox and create a virtual PC with Windows operating system. Then you can run Windows in the window in macOS and the Windows application in the virtual machine.

Note in both cases that you of course need a valid Windows license.

PS: For which school do you have to install Lexware?

Cr

Then it probably won't work. You can install Windows via Bootcamp or VMware fusion.

What kind of program is it? Mostly there are alternatives. In addition, the school can't force you to use Windows.

Em

No, but the constraint can arise indirectly through software that is to be learned. And if Lexware is currently the topic, then it is of no use to use an alternative. Just as in an Excel course, Excel and not LibreOffice Calc should be used.

Thanks, I'll try.

For vocational school, do business training.

One more question:

I have a Lexware CD that can also be used to install. Do you think it is possible to install Lexware from a CD via an external drive on the Mac?

Em

As I said: not directly under macOS.

For example, if you have a VM, then you can simply use macOS to create an ISO image from the CD and integrate it into the VM as a CD. Then it looks like a normal installation CD for Windows.

Under Bootcamp, the external CD drive should work normally anyway, and so should the installation. It's a "normal Windows PC" with an Apple logo stuck on it.

As far as I know, they are not allowed to. Your school can't lock you into a system.

Install bootcamp for the time you use the program. Is free. There you can also use Windows for free for a while or buy a key for 5 euro on ebay. You can uninstall bootcamp later.

As far as I know, they are not allowed to.

However, this is not about a general school, but rather a vocational school and commercial training. And if Lexware is prescribed here, then so be it.

Cr

Well, at my university there are often programs that only run on mac. But from an economic point of view, I consider it very unneutral.

So, bootcamp or vmware Fusion, if you just want to open the programs from "the dock"

Sense or nonsense of such "limited" training courses can always be questioned - what, for example, if you later do not work with Lexware but, for example, with Microsoft Dynamics NAV or SAP? But it is (unfortunately) the case that Windows is predominantly used in the commercial area.

As

".exe" programs do not generally run on a Mac. When you see a program like this, you can be sure that it was only made for Windows.

If the developer of a program can't be verified, then it is still possible to use this file on a Mac. To do this, you have to change the security settings in the Mac. So go over the apple symbol to the system settings and there to "security" and then to "general". There you have to open the lock at the bottom left with your passport or password. "Apps download" must be set to "without restrictions". The tick must be set there. You should now be able to use this file as well.

But don't forget to change the old security setting again. Otherwise it would be possible that you could have malware (viruses) on your Mac.
