I have no idea about computers. But I want to upgrade my laptop a bit, because my only and simple browser game is very jerky.
I have an Intel Atom processor with 4 cores, 2GB RAM and a 32 bit operating system based on x64.
I had the idea that I would get an i3 (you can get it from 10 euro) and 4GB of RAM.
Is that a good plan? XD my father can build it all in for me, he said but I should get everything.
If it is that old, it certainly has an HDD hard drive in it. I simply recommend you to install an SSD. That makes a huge difference and can be done quickly. Of course, you will have to reinstall your operating system again.
I would be interested in what exactly you have a laptop. You can't upgrade everything, especially since it always depends on the remaining hardware. For example, you can't install 4GB RAM if this is not supported by your mainboard.
I have a Trekstor notebook, but everything is soldered. There's not even the possibility to replace the internal hard drive.
Okay I got it! But can I also gamble faster with a SSD? As I said, it's a browser game… So nothing wild
What do you want to play with the laptop? Is it possible now, is it stalling or is it not working at all?
It's called Star Stable
So I wouldn't personally want to buy it, among other things, because it is a Medion notebook. And then I wouldn't order it from Aldi three times.
I don't know the notebook like this - I would have to find out more about it, but if it already says that the battery is permanently installed and can't be easily replaced by the user, I can deduce from this that the rest is also permanently installed.
It would be important if and how much you can upgrade the RAM. That and an SSD is probably the last thing you can tickle out. But then consider what it costs and how much is missing for a better used one.
All right. I've had the laptop for four years. I already have a new one, but it broke after a month of operation, so it's been repaired for several weeks and I just wanted an interim solution because I have to fall back on the other one. But thanks!

Glad I could help you. May I know how much you had to pay for this laptop?
Your father doesn't seem to be really familiar with notebooks.
Because there you can at most expand the ram (within limits) and replace the hard drive, nothing more.
An Intel Atom processor is about the weakest thing that can be built in there.
For the simplest office applications and a little surfing on the Internet, it is just enough. You can forget more!
If you want more performance, you need another notebook with a much stronger processor (eg an "i5" -4 core CPU) with a better (integrated) graphics unit, 4-8GB Ram and a sufficiently large SSD (~ 250GB to max. 500GB). That should be enough.
Which operating system did you actually install?
With Win7 it will be dangerous to go online with it from 14.01.20 (i.e. In a week). Maybe a narrow Linux would be an alternative (=> Lubuntu, or MX-Linux).

Only a few days ago I had written something about the cheapest possible notebook. Scroll down a bit there:
Or maybe a desktop PC would be a better choice.
Although this would only be local, it could also be used for more complex things. And it can be upgraded more easily and comprehensively.
And on the go you can still use this weak notebook.

PS: I bought it on my own 4 years ago
So for the Medion approx. 350 euro
Geez!
It can hardly get any worse.
My Pentium 4 (3.2 GHz) from 2005 was only marginally weaker there…

Only I had installed a significantly better graphics card and later even an SSD. I was still able to work reasonably well until 2016.
You can't upgrade anything with your device in a sensible way.
Maybe 4GB Ram will work, but I guess that only a single slot is available. If the installed ram module was not soldered firmly.
The 64GB flash memory is probably also soldered to the mainboard.
The part is a relatively expensive case with practically "nothing". (For today's conditions and requirements)
It can be used to manage the highest "cooking recipes"…
Auuu… What a "waste pain"!
It hurts my soul when someone buys rubbish like this.
Yes, unfortunately. Must be able to cope with this over the next few weeks, because notebook-cheaper really has a great service when it comes to repairs… * irony *
Yup, but well, for the first few years it was enough, but price performance is really sad. Above all, the display broke after 2 months (crack)
Oh god, this horse game again…
You can find the system requirements here:
https://www.starstable.com/de/help
=> "Technical help" => "Minimum requirements"
This atom processor could just about meet the minimum requirements, because a Pentium D (3.0 GHz) would be just as fast.
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/...924vsm3363
But there are much more powerful "Pentium D" processors, up to about 3.7GHz.
Under the CPU you can call up and compare the different models of the "Pentium D" directly.
The information on the homepage is too imprecise to guess which "Pentium D" is now exactly meant.
But with this atom processor it should at least not be much fun…
I have the game on it and also a new laptop with i5, which is in repair
Please note one thing:
This "i5" refers only to a specific CPU series from Intel, which has been around since 2008.
But you can't say which generation (1-9) that is and which "performance level". And there are sky-wide differences!
https://de.wikipedia.org/...re-i-Serie
You need the full name to identify the CPU. And only then can you clarify exactly what this CPU can do.
If someone asks you which car you are driving and you would answer (assuming) "VW Golf", that would hardly be meaningful.
Cars with this designation have been around for many generations and in a variety of model variants, engines and equipment. So that could be a simple Golf 2, but also a Golf 1 GTI, or a Golf 4 Diesel, or a Golf RS32, …
So that by no means describes what kind of golf you have there. And naming the color alone would not really help either.
So you have to be much more precise with your information.
The worst i5 processor is probably better than Intel Atom?
Probably…
But even the small Atom processors are getting better and better.
A current 4-core atom processor can therefore (in certain areas) be stronger than an i5 of the first generation (2008).
I'm not going to review that in detail now. If I had the exact names, it would be fine.
