I would like to become self-employed as a QMB / Auditor and work on my laptop from anywhere in the world. It's basically about building an online business.

Even if the practical tasks should have remained, there's no formal QMB since the revision of the standard 9001: 2015. The responsibility has been transferred in the meantime fully to the management, the "top management". Although it can still delegate certain tasks - but no longer the full responsibilities in the sense of the previous QMB role.
Even before, a formal QMB would hardly have made much sense, as its job was to ensure that the Q management system was actually lived.
What could make sense, however, is the activity as an auditor, as this checks only punctually. Here's the question of what type of audits you want to perform. To carry out complete system audits, you would have to be accredited by the DAkkS. This is so expensive that it would hardly be worth it for a one-man show.
Only the freelance work for an accredited company remains. However, you must assume that you will take on unattractive jobs here in the first place - interesting contracts with short travel times and home sleepers status, the company will certainly preferred to its own, permanent employees assigned. The payment should be quite meager - especially since you then have to travel expenses and accommodation on the spot itself.
Whether internal auditors or supplier auditors would be awarded to external freelancers, I doubt. Often these are tasks for which you interpret an internal one and send it on training. The poor person then has to complete these tasks in addition to his day-to-day business. In Externe one surely will not invest in normal medium-sized enterprises, if one has such possibilities. In large corporations that may look different…

For example, only by consulting on Skype, courses or if there are just companies for which it does not matter if you're there.
It would also be conceivable, for example, that I work for a company that carries out online instruction and that I create such instructions for this company.
