I would like to buy a used UAD Apollo Twin Solo Interface soon, but this is THUNDERBOLD, and now that I don't have a THUNDERBOLD connection on my laptop, I wanted to ask if it works with an adapter? So USB?
May work (!), but somehow the UAD interface loses its meaning…
Since standard USB 3 does not have the throughput rate of a USB C or Thunderbolt, the entire DSP function of the device is for the cat.
Means: It is no longer possible to run UAD effects in real time via the interface and the preamps are no longer fed properly.
If you only have a "normal" USB port, I strongly advise against a UAD interface. They then cost more than double than other good USB interfaces and can't do anything more if they function properly in USB 3 mode.
