Attention this is a special question, please read carefully.
Hi, I have a laptop that supports Displayport via USB-C, and a monitor that can do that too. So I only need a USB-C cable to connect the monitor and laptop, no power, no adapter or the like.
Now my idea is that I buy a USB-C hub that e.g. You can connect a USB-C power supply and other USB devices. Is the display port via USB-C then also possible via a hub? So I connect the hub and notebook via USB-C and monitor and HUB also via USB-C and it works? (Of course there are also other devices on the hub, otherwise it doesn't make any sense)
Any Displayport or HDMI connections on the hub are of no interest, because then I would need more cables.
Moin Maurice,
I would say in general that it won't work with a hub. However, if you take a so-called docking station and plug it into your laptop via USB-C and then from the docking station back into the monitor then that should be possible.
The good thing about the docking station is that you only have a single cable that goes to your laptop. Monitor cable, mouse, keyboard, camera, etc., everything is connected to this station.
Yes, I have such a docking station at work, but currently I can't get there thanks to Corona and can't test it. But what unsettles me is that with the docking stations it is always assumed that the monitor (s) are connected via Displayport / HDMI / etc. I don't think it's possible to connect a monitor via USB-C, because that is certainly a relatively unusual constellation.
For mobile work that would be great, docking station / hub in the car on the USB-C power supply, maybe a keyboard or mobile phone for USB tethering and then only with a USB-C cable to the notebook. (So if you can be mobile again at some point)
