Open Word File?

I've been using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel etc. As the Office 2010 version on my laptop so far.

However, I only discovered today that I also have the 2016 version on my laptop, I'm registered with both with my email address.

Now of course I want to use the newer version.

However, everything will still be opened with the old version.

I can create and save a 2016 file, but when I try to open it again, the 2010 version will open it.

Now I could just uninstall the 2010 version, but what happens to all the old Word files on my laptop (they are all saved as 2010s)?

Or can you convert all files from the 2010 version to the 2016 version beforehand?

Re

Right click on a Word file.
Open with…
Then select the new Word in the programs folder.
Set the tick for Always open with this program.

You can open the old file versions with the new Office version.

You have to set the new Office version as the standard program if you want all files to be opened with it

It worked!

You can continue to use it.

You can also select which program (the 2016 versions) should be used to open this in the Control Panel.

I was happier with 2010 than with 2016. But 2016 is safer.

The 2016 WORD then saves the file in the 2016 version (updates the file to the new file version) and can then no longer be opened with 2010. (Haven't tried it)

You don't have to uninstall it, but it doesn't harm the files. Search times in the task search bar for standard apps or standard programs for .xls click on Excel 2016 and for .pptx and .docx too
