Th

I use an 8 year old notebook with i5 2410m, 8GB RAM and 320GB HDD.

Selling is definitely worth it, but you even get a little something. And for Office, such a device is more than adequate, especially when retrofitting an SSD.

This can still be useful with a Linux distribution. I recommend Linux Mint Cinnamon. This is one of the most widely used Linux distributions with a large community. You can sign up for free in the community. Then you also have access to the support forum and can ask his questions there. From other community members you get help then.

Here is the download of the ISO: http://mirrors.evowise.com/linuxmint/stable/19.1/linuxmint-19.1-cinnamon-64bit.iso The ISO with this tool https://www.balena.io/...io/etcher/ flashing on an empty USB stick.

Then stick the stick in the laptop, turn on the laptop and immediately press F2. Now you are in UEFI. Deactivate the secureboot there and put the stick first in the boot order. Save and exit. The device restarts and boots the stick. Just follow the instructions of the installer. It offers the possibility to delete the hard disk. I recommend a full installation.

Here is a video of what Linux Mint Cinnamon looks like:
