Website as the main source of income?

Can you name a few companies that have a website as their main source of income?

To understand, I do not mean apps or other platforms, but really, if there are companies that only keep up with the website (accessible via PC, notebook, tablet, smartphone, etc.) stay afloat. Companies like Amazon & Co. Earn 100% more through the app than through the commercial use of the website through a PC call.

My question is based on the idea of whether it makes sense at present to create a website as a source of income, since apps are very difficult to program, or very expensive to program.

I think of all the websites of Minecraft servers, which are currently so gehyped.

They earn their money only by selling virtual (cosmetic) rights.

Twenty years ago that was still the case and you could make money with a single website. Today, this is not worth it anymore because there are too many and the competition is big. That's why something has become rather uninteresting today.

You can't say that in a lump sum. If you offer something that has almost no competition or more features, you can still make a lot of money.

Unfortunately, this is no longer useful as there's almost nothing left where there's not at least one or more competitors. And if you even work what is not offered by anybody, there will be someone in a few days at the latest who offers better, cheaper and more service than you can afford. And you've thrown the money out the window. It's useless to think about it nowadays. That was something else 20-30 years ago. Back in the 1990s I had my own website with clicks around 10,000 PRO days. The former host of the server made my hell hot because I caused too much Trafiic. At that time, I sold the domain and its content to someone else. He moved to another provider, but as soon as it was known that I was no longer the owner of the site, the clicks collapsed. Today only the domain is registered in his name but no page exists anymore.

Until a year ago, you could easily earn some 100k € a year with CSGO Gambling. And you only needed a few hundred visitors a day.
