I actually only need a laptop for business: your laptop experience / recommendation
Which of these brands would you recommend for a laptop?
I have now had my second device from ASUS and so far only good experiences with devices from ASUS. I bought the first device in 2011 and it is still running. After about 5 - 6 years, only the hard drive was defective, but replacing it was also not a major expense. Since then there have been no problems. The second device ran without any problems from 2013 to 2019, after that I had to replace the keyboard. But of course it can also happen with ASUS devices that you quickly have a defect. Otherwise, I can still recommend devices from Lenovo, especially ThinkPads. I also think various models from HP and Dell are in order. At Dell, the selection is also relatively small. I would advise against it personally from Acer, even if the devices there are often a little cheaper than those from other manufacturers. And Apple would be a waste of money for me, but there are enough people who prefer Apple devices. You won't find any new devices from Samsung or very few. I mean they stopped production a few years ago, at least in Europe.
Price performance is right Service is fine. If I had a problem with my HP laptop, I had it again within a week. Unfortunately, it took several months to send the recovery disc.
Apple's software - MacOS - is simply unbeatable. The stability and the productivity is just great.
You also get a top office system, iMovie etc. Already included - software for which you have to pay with Windows.
I like the XPS 13, nice and small. And of course the Thinkpads from Lenovo and Apple's MacBook Pros. The latter are the only ones to offer MacOS, but the price is a bit higher, especially for storage.
A business device? As far as I know, Acer, Asus and Samsung don't really have anything on offer. Apple positions itself in between, but these are not real business devices and I can't get anything out of the software or the whole concept of the devices.
Dell, HP and Lenovo remain. It makes little sense to recommend a flat rate according to the companies, all three have very good devices on offer. Depending on the company, there tend to be strengths in the devices, but since you haven't mentioned any requirements, you can't even comply with them. Personally, I prefer ThinkPads because of the keyboard and the design, but there's not much more that can be said in general.
Unfortunately, it took several months to send the recovery disc.
You don't need something like that ^^
Acer thinks the best for this too
After the service, it was no longer possible to restore the laptop to the factory state without the disk, since the recovery partition could no longer be used.
At the price, I would expect that. There's everything with Linux and Windows as freeware + much better hardware, etc. The only thing "missing" is mac os.
Create Windows Stick (takes 10 minutes) and reinstall. You can also make a Linux Live stick for data recovery. Everything else is cash grave.
That didn't work at the time (2009)
There was already usb.
Booting from USB is not possible, only possible from hard drive or DVD drive.
I have at home. Can easily boot from the stick.
Not possible with every laptop. I once have an Acer laptop that I should get working for a co-worker, DVD drive can only be opened in Windows and can't boot with USB, no possibility in the BIOS to change it.
Previously only Dell and Lenovo had laptops. And you could boot from the stick. It may be that some manufacturers have hermetically sealed their boards. You could always flash it.
If you can start Knoppix (Linux Live) on the laptop, you can also install Windows.
HP offers the best support for companies m.n.
