I have a laptop that needs my username and password to log in (otherwise I won't go any further). So is the username - Guest -
I don't know the password (the laptop belongs to my sister) and she has
forgot the password. If I can't find a solution to somehow be able to work with the laptop again, I can throw it away, or is there a way to breathe life back into it by finding a solution? Can someone help me with this problem?

It doesn't have to be F8; also try keys like F2, F10, F12 delete, esc. You can also google the laptop brand and which keys are used.

Boot up Windows XP until you log on.
Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys and also press the Delete key twice.
A small login window opens…
Just enter administrator for username.
