Question: is it possible to completely flatten a laptop that currently has Win10 and install xp on it?
Before jmd asks: why and why?:
We have AutoCad LT 2007. Since our old laptop fell down and the screen is no longer usable, we bought a used laptop with Win 10 on it. Unfortunately we did not think that the AutoCad version only runs up to Win XP at the most. Before we sell the computer again, I got the idea to flatten it - to buy a WinXP CD (with a key, of course) and then up with AutoCad… But before I put more time and money (if not so much) into it: Do I have a mistake or can I do it without problems?
Eve,
So, it could be possible, but maybe not so useful. Windows XP is a bit old and if you try to install it on a new notebook, there may be problems due to missing drivers or it may not work at all.
there's compatibility mode in Windows 10: right click on the program icon and "start in compatibility mode" (or something like that). Maybe it will work? With this approach I was able to help a friend get a very old program to run on Windows 8.
Here is a guide that I found quickly:
First test whether it really does not run on win 10, many programs still run, for example I still use a program to convert my CDs from winxp to Windows 10 without any problems
Unfortunately AutoCad LT 2007 definitely does not work on Win10 :-( and if you want to buy an AutoCad version that runs on 10, it must be at least 2016 (if I'm not mistaken) and they also cost a Heidengeld. Monthly subscription would also go, but before we do something like that, we wanted to see if there were any cheaper alternatives.
So on the used Lappi there was definitely originally Win7 (according to the sticker under the laptop) - when it comes down to it, the drivers can be "old enough", right?
It's been so long with me that I've flattened a computer XD
Doesn't spark. A .net is missing (according to research, the .net is too up-to-date and then an older one would have to be on it - and I have little idea that I'm somehow fumbling in the registry:-)
Oh yes, I will of course try the link before I buy something that doesn't have to.
Understand. Then maybe this helps:
https://www.giga.de/...so-geht-s/
https://www.microsoft.com/...px?id=8002
So it should work properly.
Then simply install an old version of netframework, only missing files are inserted that are not absolutely required in the new version
Hmm. Sounds good:-) But how do I do that? Do I have to change anything in the registry? When installing ACad, it initially stops with a message similar to "can't find .net".
Thank you very much! I try everything:-) If only the kids were already in bed, that I have rest ;-)
You don't have to change anything in the registry, for what
I can download different versions of .net and click on install - but unfortunately nothing changes… Thanks a lot - could have worked:-)
