I want to access the virtual machine without opening it because I just want to move some data from my laptop to the VM and vice versa.
Is it even possible or do I have to start the machine and use other means to transport the data?

Do you have to do it like that?
I have shared folders which are then on the host system, i.e. Outside the virtual machine.
Files that one system stores there are then available in the other.
Either via shared files or via a usb stick.
at least you can't shovel the data over without starting the machine.
