Where should your laptop get power when you pull out the power plug? Since the battery can't be charged properly, it can't work without a power supply. So get the battery out and without the battery keep hanging the laptop on the power.
Probably something about the power supply.
The energy setting can be such that the laptop goes into stand-by or something else when the battery is too low.
