I would like to play old computer games that are unfortunately no longer playable on the newer operating systems of today's PCs / laptops.
I have an older, not too often used laptop (about 5 years old or a little older) with the Windows 8 operating system on it. Is it possible to install Windows XP on it? If so, what should I get? Not that I simply order what I'm looking for and it is somehow incompatible.
This is difficult to do because Microsoft does not support it in this direction.
You have to make your computer completely flat and then reinstall the operating system with an installation CD with Windows XP.

What kind of games do you have in mind? If they can do without a 3D card, the whole thing can be done well in a VM. Otherwise it gets more complicated.
For example the games Pearl Harbor 1 and 2, the whole PC Champion games and the games of dandelions.
First of all I would try the compatibility mode. The games may already be running.
Otherwise try the whole thing with a VM.
