External hard drive for data backup, what size?

Who can tell me how big an external hard drive has to be for backup.

My notebook kat a hard drive of 500 GB. I hope this information is enough.

Local disk C has 229GB free of 282GB

Recovery D has 1.84 free from 13.8GB

Search what is appropriate and cheap, thank you

An

At least twice the current internal memory. But as external FPs are getting cheaper and cheaper, you should, and that's my experience, buy the largest FPs you can afford financially.

It is even better, of course, to buy two plates and save the data twice.

Since the prices are now so far in the basement that even between 1 TB and 2 GB the difference is only marginal:

Housing for 3.5 "HDD with USB 3 connection:

2TB hard drive 3.5 "

Case 25 Euro, hard drive 60 Euro → with 85 Euro you are there.

Since I would definitely take twice as large or more than 500GB, because not every external hard drive has exactly 500 GB free.

As a manufacturer, I recommend you Western Digital. Because they not only have good life but they are also stabiller. For me, the Western Digital External Hard Drive has just dropped off in the middle of copying data on the Hard Ground and it still works like the first day. And my Western Digital hard drive has been around for 7 years, and the data is still on it today.

ch

I would at least take 1TB.

I do backups like this: a 1 to 1 reflection from my user directory + a full image before upgrading to a new operating system version.

If you want to do the same, 1TB will be pretty perfect.

Otherwise, if you do not want to create an image, for example, the same size, 500GB would be enough, but you do not think I'm getting any more xD

th

Well, there's an external hard drive with 2TB cheaper and mmn better.

What sets my solution apart from your solution?

With me you know what's inside the case
no 2.5 "

What is the same?

Both are external hard disks

My hero.

You can read exactly what's inside the case. Usually it's the case with Intenso Toshibas.

Costs just 60 euro instead of 85 euro, needs no extra power adapter, is handy and not so prone to crashes. (where the disks are always critical ^^)

But I would be interested to know what advantages you will find in your solution? (Not at all derogatory or meant that way.

After the purchase. Not before the purchase.

You know in advance what you are buying.

Well… I'll say so…

If you want to pick up 5 liters of water somewhere, then you should take a bucket with at least 5 liter capacity.

Data is similar.

Now it only depends on how you want to back up your data. With a 1 to 1 copy, you just need exactly the appropriate space, which occupy the data on the internal disk. The maximum is 500 GB.

Personally, I would buy a 2 TB HDD in 3.5 inches and a hard drive housing, where you can easily replace the plate. The whole then with USB 3.0, so that the data transfer does not take so long.

The Inateck SA01003 is not bad. Cost anywhere between 20 and 30 euro. An internal 2 TB HDD with 3,5 inches gives it for approximately 60 euro.

Um… 90 euro for a backup is not cheap with you?

These WD parts all have problems with the physical ports.
