When I boot up my old notebook, I think there's a boot manager asking me which USB settings I want to choose. I then press F1 for the default setting. Then it also starts up normally, only the time is reset every time. This message came suddenly and I wonder why. The notebook itself works perfectly, only I have to change the time every time because of the network connection.
Could it be that your BIOS battery is empty?! Just an idea, does the notebook only work when it is powered up?
If you are thrown into the BIOS every time and / or have to correct the time, the CMOS battery is 99% empty.
This is a CR2032 lithium battery, costs around 50 cents to maybe max. 1 euro.
The disadvantage of this is that you have to unscrew the notebook to get it.
Yes exactly. However, this was the case with the battery long before. This is now independent of the current problem. The one with the battery has been around for several years, the one with the time only yesterday.
I know and have the batteries. I usually use it for a digital scale. Can you do that much wrong?
Didn't you use it for a long time?
Not really. The notebook only needs to be completely disconnected from the power supply.
And if you have problems to remove the old battery from the holder, it sometimes helps to gently pry it out with a screwdriver.
