Hi! I would like to install the final cut pro test version, but the following message comes up all the time:
"final cut pro x trial can't be installed on this drive. MacOS version 10.15.6 or newer is required"
Can I install any update to make it work?
In my system settings it says I have macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 … Is that too old? I only bought the laptop about 2 years ago.
Which version of MB do you have?
MacBook Air
The MBAir has been around since 2012. Which version?
Version 10.13.6
10.13.6 is the version of your BS OS X. I need information about the hardware, when your MBA was produced.
Ahh sorry. The settings say 2017?
With the MBAir 2017 you can run the update to 10.15. To be on the safe side, you should create a full backup on an external hard drive.
… And research.
Unfortunately, the trial version of Final Cut Pro is only available on the latest Apple operating systems. An older version or the use of the software on an operating system older than Catalina is not possible. Apple would like to ask users to update to the latest operating system.
Since your MacBook Air 2017 is only 3 years old, you would have to carry out a so-called "upgrade". In other words, you would have to do the following in order to be able to use the test version of Final Cut:
1) Open the App Store
2) Search for "macOS Big Sur"
3) Press "Load"
4) Wait for the download of approximately 12GB to complete.
Your MacBook Air will then install the latest operating system.
Warning: The installation of macOS Big Sur can lead to data loss or other problems. I therefore urgently advise you to back up your data on a stick or other external medium. Usually everything goes without any problems or complications. In the worst case scenario, you are well protected in the event that something should go wrong.
On this website you can follow the individual steps again to install the latest version. It's really easy!
